We often hear and see the term ‘brain training’ but what does it do actually? Brain training is also called cognitive training, it is like going to gym, exercise your brain but not your muscle. Why do we need brain training? Is like we need to go gym to keep us healthy and our muscle fit, we need brain training to keep our brain active and to prevent “rust”. Our brain is like a computer or machine, we need to keep using it and keep it active so that it wouldn’t slow down.
What is the benefits of brain training for children?
1. Improves memory, especially working memory. Working memory is like google, a search engine in your brain, for example remembering what you have seen or heard few second ago. One very simple exercise is remembering image in sequence, after brain training, children tend to remember new images in sequence better. Brain training can also helps in visual spatial memory, visual memory, auditory memory and etc.
2. Improves attention. Attention is one of the cognitive skills that most children are lack of, this will lead to poor performance at school, missing important details and not able to complete daily task effectively. Through play and learn way of brain training, it will be able to help children focus on a task better.
3. Improves processing speed. Processing speed is how fast a child do mental calculation or thinking, if a child’s processing speed is fast, it takes shorter time for a child to learn and respond to information.
Brain training may not have immediate result that we can see in their results or exam, but it will definitely helps in students’ study and education as well as their daily function in long term, it seems as a foundation for children to learn faster and effective in school. Brain training is like going to gym, it has to be consistent to get better results. In Blooms Learning Centre, we combine daycare with Signature Brain Training Playgroup so that children that come to us can get play and learn types of brain training while they are having daycare.
