Memory is important in studying, if a student has a good memory, then he or she will learn better and faster. Before we learn how to improve memory, let’s see what and how many types of memory.
There are three main types of memory, first is sensory memory which involved five senses (hearing, smell, taste, touch, sight), for example when you see hot and boiling water, that will recall you how pain even though you are not touching it. There are 3 main types of sensory memory, which are visual memory or iconic memory, auditory memory or echoic memory, touch memory or haptic memory.
The other types of memory is short term memory or working memory, it is as what it called, short time of remembering and can store very less items at a time. Short term memory is the information that you remember in short term and small capacity, you may recall it fast but after long time, you will not be able to remember and recall it.
The last one is long term memory, which means the information that can be remember and recall after long time. There are three types of long term memory, procedural memory, semantic memory and episodic memory. Procedural memory is refers as the memory of motor skills such as how to drive a car. Semantic memory is memory of general knowledge for example function of traffic light. Episodic memory is responsible for storing the information of what we have experienced for example the first time that you get punished in school.
